A mysterious plague called 'The Purple Death' strikes Earth. Flash Gordon and Dr. Alexis Zarkov conclude that Ming The Merciless, ruler of the planet Mongo is behind the terrible plague. Along with Dale Arden, the trio use Dr. Zarkov's super sophisticated rocket ship to begin their adventure; but first they must gain allies in their quest. Arriving in Arboria to enlist the aid of Prince Barin, they meet Fria The Queen Of The Ice Kingdom who is also seeking Barin's aid against the evil Ming. Joining forces, they break into Ming's laboratory just in time to halt a fiendish experiment and in the process Flash is pitted against a giant of tremendous strength and falls into a deep pit. Will Flash survive? Will he be able to save Earth?

Our fearless hero Flash Gordon is rescued from the energy pit and escapes with Dr. Alexis Zarkov from the palace of Ming The Merciless. Ronal, a Captain to Prince Barin, learns the location for an antidote to the 'The Purple Death' which is now ravaging Earth. The antidote is a mineral called 'Polarite' and is only found in the frozen wastes of Frigia. Flash and Dr. Zarkov mount an expedition to Frigia, using a discovery by Dr. Zarkov to survive the deadly freezing tempetures. An enemy rocket ship, sent by Ming, spots our intrepid group high upon a frozen mountain searching for the antidote. The ship attacks, narrowly missing them with a dropped bomb. While the bomb misses, it causes an avalanche the puts Flash and his companions in deadly jeopardy. Will Flash survive the avalanche? Will he find the antidote to save Earth?

Emperor Ming, thrilled beyond belief that Flash Gordon and his companions have been destroyed, intercepts a radio message from the resurrected Flash to his father informing him their expedition to find an antidote to 'The Purple Death' has been successful and will hopefully save Earth. An enraged Ming, knowing his soldiers cannot survive the intense cold of Frigia, sends his minion Torch and a company of 'Annihilations', mechanical robots fitted with explosives that Torch can control and detonate from the safety of his rocket ship. Deep in the frozen wastes of Frigia the mechanical 'walking bombs' find Flash and attack. Flash grapples with one of the 'Annihilations' as it is set to detonate. Will Flash survive this explosive attack? Can he get the antidote back to save Earth?

Disguised as guards, they learn that Ming has sentenced Dr. Zarkov to death and to marry Dale Arden, each to be carried out immediately. They find a manacled Dr. Zarkov in the Arena Of Death just as the 'Death Ray' begins moving it deadly beam toward the helpless Zarkov. Can Flash save Dr. Zarkov from death? Can Flash rescue Dale Arden as well?

Events take a deadly turn when a rocket ship belonging to Prince Barin open fires on what it believes is an enemy Ming ship. Flash, unable to communicate with Prince Barin's ship in time, finds his ship badly damage and going down. Will Flash survive the crash? Can Flash save his companions?

Completing their mission, Ming's soldiers are captured by the Rock Men who live there. Flash and his companions, unaware of the bomb, make for Devils Dome and Rock Men now turn their attention to Flash and his group invading their territory. Will Flash discover the Bomb in time? Who are the Rock Men?

Through an exceedingly clever ruse Flash and Dr. Zarkov escape only to discover that the Rock Prince is still alive and helpless in the grip of a powerful psychic lodestone. While Flash attempts to save the Rock Prince, Dr. Zarkov hurries back with the news to the Rock King before Dale Arden is thrown into a fiery pit. Can Flash save the Rock Prince? Will Zarkov be in time?

Ming's minions, Torch and Sonja, confined to prison cells in Prince Barin's palace, escape their confinement and find the radio room where they overpower the radio operator and contact their master. Emperor Ming orders them to send out false orders grounding all of Prince Barin's rocket ships leaving the kingdom unprotected against Ming's bombers. Dale Arden is overhears the plans but is captured by Torch and Sonja who issue the false orders and then destroy the radio. The retreat onto the palace roof pursued by Flash who while in battle with Torch hears Ming's bombers approaching. Can Flash rescue Dale Arden? Will they survive Ming's bombers?
